The article presents a comparative analysis of the construction of buildings with zero energy consumption in the Russian Federation and foreign countries. The objective is to analyze the effectiveness of this type of construction of buildings in this country, and the least expensive to develop the technology in construction. The object of investigation is considered building (laboratory), which will be built in April 2013 in Saint-Petersburg State Polytechnical University.The analysis shows that the construction of buildings with a zero-energy effective for the following reasons:

- green buildings;

- economically advantageous;

- energy efficient.
