        <p>This article focuses on the latest technology computer-aided design, building information modeling (BIM). BIM is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. It examines the current situation in the field of information technology, discusses the role of 2D and 3D in the design. The problem of implementing BIM in Russia associated with the limited number of experts in this field. BIM technology originated relatively recently, but in recent years actively becomes dominant in the world of design and construction practice, replacing all previously used methods of design. In our country, it only began to take, but already well known to those working with the programs Autodesk Revit, Graphisoft ArchiCAD, Nemetschek Allplan, Bentley Architecture, Tekla Structures and some others.</p>
