        <p>In article was analyzed the current situation in the field of urban house construction in Russia. The development of residential house building in Russia in the past hundred years was considered. In addition, the main types of residential building are typical to foreign developed countries were determined. It is shown that it is necessary to develop the low-, mid-rise block building to create a comfortable urban area for human habitat. It is necessary to revise current guidelines in the field of design and urban planning and use the experience of advanced countries. Development of the lacking statistical research in this area is required. A comprehensive approach, in other words an interaction of the government, the designer and developer are needed to create a "living, safe, sustainable and healthy" city.</p>
